
Weston-super-Mare’s former MP John Penrose took to Twitter ahead of the Government’s vote on whether to scrap Winter Fuel Allowance for pensioners to express his concern over the impact such a decision would have on the local elderly population. He wrote:
Despite this appeal, Aldridge cast his vote in favor of removing the allowance, impacting an estimated 17,532 pensioners in Weston-super-Mare. The following day, John followed up with another tweet, questioning Aldridge’s stance during the vote:
The vote has ignited significant local and national debate, with many questioning the long-term impact on the elderly community with cold weather on the horizon and rising energy prices.
